75.9 x 40.5 cm (93 x 53.5 cm framed) 2012
The unicorn and the three figures are all adapted from the great tapestry series The Hunt of the Unicorn: the unicorn from the 7th tapestry, “The Unicorn in Captivity”; the dog-catcher policeman from a spearman in the 4th tapestry, “The Unicorn Defends Himself; the coppers’ nark from the lymerer in the 2nd tapestry, “The Unicorn Dips his Horn ...”; and the Man from the Ministry from lord of the hunt in the 6th tapestry, “The Unicorn is Killed and Brought to the Castle”. The street background is from a photograph of Salford in the 1950s (I've suppressed a tram), but represents Oxford Road, Manchester, where Turing picked up the lad with whom he was eventually charged. The two faces on the right are both based on images of Turing, but distorted to indicate results of chemical interference with his body and personality.
